National Coalition of Assassination Researchers Calls for Full Release of Classified Records on the Life and Death of Dr. King

Vigil, April 4, at Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial
on the 44th Anniversary of his Assassination

On April 4th, 2012, which marks the 44th anniversary of the assassination of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., in Memphis, TN in 1968, the Coalition on Political Assassinations will hold a day-long vigil at the new Martin Luther King Memorial site in Washington, DC, from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm calling for full release of classified government records regarding his life and death. King assassination researchers Dick Gregory and T Carter are expected to attend, among others.

The event, “Who Killed Dr. King? Free the Files, Find the Truth” is sponsored by a national network of medical, forensic and ballistics experts, academicians and authors and independent researchers formed in 1994 to effect the full release of records under the JFK Assassination Records Act and to study and present the best new evidence in all the major political assassinations of the 1960s and since. We hope to call attention to the civil suit brought by the family of Dr. King in Memphis, which exonerated alleged killer James Earl Ray and convinced the jury that a conspiracy involving US government agencies had been responsible for the assassination.

The investigative records of the House Select Committee on Assassinations that closed its work in 1978 by locking up the files for 50 years were released in part under the JFK Records Act, but the thousands of files on Dr. King’s assassination remain sealed. Proposed legislation to effect a full release of these and other federal, state, local and court records is still anticipated from the offices of Congressman John Lewis and Senator John Kerry, based on the successful JFK Records Act that has released over 6.5 million classified pages to date.

This event is one of several commemorative events and conferences sponsored by the Coalition on Political Assassinations regarding the still unsolved murder of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in Memphis, TN, Los Angeles, CA and annually on November 22nd in Dallas, TX.

Information on this year’s regional meeting in Dallas, and other Coalition events can be seen at the website www.politicalassassinations.com.
