Jack Ruby and Italian Rifles

This document concerns Jack Ruby, the man who silenced Lee Harvey Oswald. Ruby, who began his organized crime career with Al Capone’s mob in Chicago as a runner figured in to many parts of history. When the McClelland commission on organized crime subpoenaed mob boss San Giancana for corruption of the waste handlers union in Chicago, he refused to testify and was jailed on contempt. They moved to his second in command, then known as Jacob Rubenstein (Jack Ruby), but before they could act a letter arrived from the office of the Vice President of the United States, Richard Nixon. He requested that they not subpoena Rubenstein, since “this individual assisted us on the House Un-American Activities Committee”. The mob never liked the Communists, but Ruby seems to have many ties to US intelligence, going back to his service with ONI in WWII. ONI was the first major agency to link to the mob, long before the CIA. ONI hands William Sullivan and Cartha Deke DeLoach created Division 5 at the FBI for domestic spying and more, and J Edgar Hoover said there was “no such thing as organized crime”. He probably got a good return on his bets at the DelMar race track in California for that. Ruby was also a gun runner, and ran guns to Castro at one point with his partner McWillie. He was moved from Chicago to Dallas and controlled different operations there involving organized crime. In this document, not released with the other JFK files since it was marked NBR (“not believed relevant”), Ruby’s noted activities include inquiries about Italian rifles. The gun used to frame Lee Harvey Oswald was an Italian Mannlicher-Carcano, credited for losing WWII for the Italians who used it due to its inaccuracy and trouble in handling. Quite a coincidence, but apparently not “relevant”.
