Most Americans remember President John F. Kennedy’s history-making call to national service — “Ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country” — for inspiring thousands to serve their country in the Peace Corps and in other ways. This year, Dallas County residents have the opportunity to answer a similar call: County Judge Clay Jenkins has designated Nov. 21, the day before the 50th anniversary of the president’s assassination, as a day of service. It is a thoughtful and tasteful way to honor a slain president and his call to give back.
