RFK Confidential Files Released After 50 Years – JFK Library

Over 7,500 pages of previously sealed records from Robert Kennedy’s personal collection during the JFK administration have been released to the public and are available at the President John F. Kennedy Library in Boston, Massachusetts. These files cover the Cuban Missile Crisis and RFK’s role in the Mongoose operation aimed at toppling Cuban president Fidel Castro. Edward Lansdale, the military intelligence operative who convinced the Kennedy brothers to use covert operations instead of direct military intervention is featured it he documents as are many other historical figures. One memo from the State Department warns RFK that they will not support any U.S. directed attempt to oust Castro and is critical of Operation Mongoose. This is an early news report.
